Pilot Point Texas Vision & Guiding Principles

May 25, 2017

The City of Pilot Point Texas selected the JDGray Group LLC to facilitate a revision of its vision statement and guiding principles.  We are excited to work with Pilot Point, a city on the northern edge of growth in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. Working with the community to distill a vision statement and guiding principles will help Pilot Point formulate a full strategy for advancing towards that vision in the future.

The process includes a community input phase where the citizens and stakeholders of Pilot Point provide their wisdom and insight on the future of the community. We employ a combination of public meetings and a stakeholder survey to gain this input. JDGray Group uses a methodology designed to discover the vision the community has for itself by using the THINK | SAY | DO | FEEL approach. We’ll ask stakeholders to view the community in 20 years and then describe:

  • What do citizens, visitors, and employers THINK about the community in the future?

  • What do citizens, visitors, and employers SAY about the community in the future?

  • What do citizens, visitors, and employers DO in the community in the future?

  • What do citizens, visitors, and employers FEEL about the community in the future?

We’ve found that it is important to guide stakeholders into setting aside current constraints and limitations to envision these aspects of the community over the planning horizon. The approach helps to get to a vision statement that focuses on the the experiences people hope for in the future.

A vision with no direction is simply a dream. We’ll also take the next step with the stakeholders to develop a set of guiding principles. Guiding principles serve as additional context to the vision and as the starting point for establishing short-term strategic objectives and goals.
