Sidney is truly a full-service city. It operates under council-manager form of government and oversees all typical municipal operations in addition to its own electrical distribution system and full-service general/business aviation airport. The City currently has 82 employees and has recently approved a $49.8 million budget.
Business is booming in Sidney. Approximately $300 million in public and private investment has been added to the community in the form of development and infrastructure projects within the past 3 years. With oversized infrastructure already in place, the city is positioned very well to continually attract significant business and residential development for the foreseeable future. The next City Manager will lead the team that writes the history of this period for Sidney.
Sidney is just 170 miles from Denver and 100 miles from Cheyenne. Some of the best downhill skiing in the world along with all of the recreational opportunities and beauty of the Rocky Mountains are within easy reach. While Sidney is near several world-class attractions, the quality of life within Sidney is also hard to beat. The city owned Hillside Golf Course offers a beautiful and high quality 18-hole golf experience at minimal cost and connects to a continuous six mile hike and bike trail system. The recently opened 120,000 square foot Sidney Regional Medical Center is a full service critical care hospital and surgical facility that hosts a number of medical specialties. Class sizes are small and academic performance is high within the Sidney Public Schools.
Sidney is home to the corporate headquarters of Cabela's, a $3 billion Fortune 700 company and the World's Foremost Outfitter. While Cabela’s employs 2,000 people and is easily the area’s largest company, five other private companies employ in excess of 100 people each, helping to diversify the overall economy.
