City Manager Recruitment - Alliance, Nebraska

Welcome to Alliance, Nebraska, where a community committed to excellence is “Building the Best Hometown in America®.” Nearly 9,000 people call the community in the Nebraska panhandle home, and the Mayor and City Council are looking for an open-minded, team-oriented servant leader to help lead the community into the next chapter. Alliance adopted the council-manager form of government in 1921, making it the first city in Nebraska to commit to professional management. The previous city manager resigned the position after five and a half years to become the city manager of a larger suburban community near Oklahoma City.
The city is staffed with 100 FTE and manages a budget of $44 million. The city operates a variety of venues, including an 18-hole championship golf course, swimming pool, and a remarkable system of parks running throughout the city.
Alliance operates its own electric utility, which is dedicated to bringing cost-effective and dependable electric service to the community and the surrounding area. The City owns the Alliance Municipal Airport, which has daily commercial service flights and serves as a regional general/corporate aviation airport.
Alliance is located in the beautifully rugged panhandle of western Nebraska. With a two and a half hour drive, you can be at Mount Rushmore, Rapid City, the Black Hills or Cheyenne. The metropolitan amenities of Denver are just three and a half hours away. You can enjoy the benefits of vibrant small-town life with sincerely caring people, an authentic downtown, an active business climate, and the rugged beauty and outdoor adventures of the High Plains.
The community has taken its slogan of “Building the Best Hometown in America®” very seriously, and the quality of life in Alliance is hard to beat. Alliance is the epitome of a family-
friendly community. Small enough for people to know their neighbors, yet big enough to offer a
wide variety of cultural opportunities, this is a great place to raise a family. The public school system is highly regarded and actively supports students' athletic, civic, and artistic interests.
The city is seeking a visionary, open-minded, team-oriented leader who communicates with the City Council, staff, and the public easily and openly. The successful candidate will embrace the community and strive to be a part of its bright future.
If you have at least five years of public sector administrative and managerial experience and can demonstrate a proven track record of success, you are a candidate that we want to meet. A bachelor's degree in public administration or a related field is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.
The starting salary will be competitive, generally starting at $90,000 for well-qualified candidates. The cIty offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
